SBL SPONSORS WAITARA’S GOLF TOURNAMENT FOR THE 5th CONSECUTIVE TIME

Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL) through its premium Scotch whisky Jonnie Walker announced that they are sponsoring the 2015 George Waitara Golf Tournament for the fifth year in a row which is expected to take place at the Lugalo Golf Course in Dar es Salaam come Saturday the 21st of November.

Speaking to reporters in a press conference held at the Lugalo Golf course, SBL’s spirits Brand Manager Mr. Shomari Shija said SBL’s sponsorship in the tournament aims at supporting the development of the golf sport in the country. “Through this sponsorship we aim to not only engage the consumer more but also to give back to the community. A great deal of our consumers enjoy the sport hence the sponsorship combines the two things our consumers enjoy most. Part of this sponsorship will also include prizes, drinks and entertainment”, said Shija.

On his part, The Lugalo Golf Club Secretary Retired Colonel John Nyalusi thanked SBL for its continued support to the sport and called on other companies to support golf in the country. “We are well aware that the number of golf courses in the country is not satisfactory to engage more Tanzanians to take up the sport. we hope that through the Waitara Tournament and the support of Johnnie Walker others may learn and take from the experience to foster the growth of the sport country-wide”.  He went on to confirm that the guest of honour of the event is expected to be the retired judge Mark Bomani and that so far 150 golf players have confirmed their participation. “This turn-up so far has been encouraging with members from other clubs including residents at Lugalo golf club, Dar es Salaam gymkhana club, Morogoro gymkhana club, Arusha club, etc having signed up to be a part of the annual event”,said Nyalusi.

The Waitara golf tournament is held every year with the objective to honor the retired General George Waitara’s contribution to the sports sector in Tanzania by initiating the golf course at the Lugalo Golf Club. The golf course started operating in 2006 by the immense contribution of retired general George Waitara while he was in power and has been greatly supported and enhanced when his successor and current army General Davis Mwamunyange took office.
